League Update 05/29/2020

The USTA National suspension of sanctioned play will be lifted as of June 1…
… however, we still have some important milestones to reach throughout Colorado before we can consider starting our 1st Season of Leagues, which will include USTA Adult 18 & Over, USTA Adult 55 & Over, USTA Mixed 18 & Over and CTA Women’s Daytime Doubles.
As of today, we do not have a definitive date by which we will be able to start leagues. While facilities across Colorado are beginning to open, many of them are on different timelines for returning to tennis.
Question: When will leagues start?
Answer: We will have a better idea when a couple primary obstacles are cleared:
- We cannot start leagues until state, city and county ordinances allow this type of activity.
- We cannot start leagues while many facilities are in the early phases of re-opening and not yet allowing league play.
As time goes by, we will all get a better sense of when restrictions on play have been lifted, as well as, when facilities throughout each of our League Areas are ready for league play to begin.
USTA Colorado is as eager as many players to start leagues; however, the health and well-being of everyone involved is our #1 priority. Although we are still unable to provide any solid dates on when league play may begin, we will keep you all informed as more information becomes available.
New Opportunity
In these unprecedented times, USTA Colorado is looking for new ways to support league players and providers. Since facilities are returning to tennis on different timelines, we realize there are some players who may want to start playing earlier than others.
For 2020, we have a new league offering: USTA In-House League. Interested facilities can partner with USTA Colorado to provide a flexible league for the players at their facility. Players can sign up for singles, doubles, mixed (or all three options if they want). Match days and times are determined by the players involved in each match, so it can be played whenever courts are available.
Scores can be input into TennisLink, but these matches do not count toward NTRP ratings. This can also be a great option for facilities that are not able to have guests or non-members this year. If you are interested in this opportunity while we wait for leagues to begin, ask your facility if it is something that can fit within their offerings.
