JCC to re-open for winter 2016-17

And just like that, the JCC is open for business again….

At least it will be, come October 1 when Jim Swiggart, former Director at the Tennis Center in Steamboat Springs, will reopen the indoor courts just in time for the snow to fly.

The facility was slated for demolition as part of the JCC’s massive facility renovation plan. In its place, a new indoor tennis facility has been planned for construction — across Dahlia St, along Leetsdale Ave in southeast Denver, at the foot of the Greek Orthodox Church.

Here’s the message from JCC Board:

Dear JCC Member:

I am writing to update you on the status of our capital campaign. Unfortunately, last week, contractor bids for our campus renovation project came back significantly higher than expected. Members of the Board of Directors are currently evaluating options and we will apprise you of next steps promptly after decisions are reached.

What we know at this time is that construction of the new Fitness and Aquatics Center will not start in September. On the positive side, the existing Tennis Center will not be demolished in September, and we plan to operate the JCC Tennis Center this fall/winter. In addition, the existing Outdoor Pool will remain open for lap swimming this winter, which we hope will please our lap swimmers.

Construction on the lower parking lot will continue as planned with estimated completion in early fall. The parking lot project will create an additional 98 parking spaces for members and guests. Traffic flow will be improved through wider driving lanes and parking spaces. Drainage in the parking lot also will be improved and this will minimize potholes in the future.

We greatly appreciate your continued support of the JCC and your patience during the construction and planning process.

If you have questions in the meantime, please contact Karla Hanlon, Interim CEO, at khanlon@jccdenver.org or 303.316.6365.

Thank you,

Scott H. Reisch

Chair, JCC Board of Directors
