Coronavirus Update: Adult League FAQs

4/29/2020

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we are receiving about the suspension of play:

DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS

  1. Why were the USTA CO District Championships canceled this year?
Due to the COVID-19 virus, the USTA has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 League National, Sectional & District Championships. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the health and safety of all of those who play our sport is of the utmost importance.

District Championships require a number of date deadlines to advance to a District Championship, and it became increasingly apparent that meeting those deadlines might not be feasible.

District Championships require large groups of people congregating in certain locations – USTA Colorado supports social distancing and we are not certain if local or State regulations will allow or prohibit medium or large numbers of people to gather at a given site.

This has affected families across the State differently, and we are sensitive to the fact that families might not have the financial means to travel to an event like this in 2020.
  2. Who decided to cancel Districts?
Based on the recommendations and feedback from the Adult League Committee, USTA staff and volunteers, a collaborative decision was made to cancel the 2020 USTA CO District Championships.
  3. Did you consider postponing the 2020 District Championships to later in the fall or in 2021?
Yes. This was explored, and it was determined that holding the events later in the fall or in 2021 was not feasible.
  4. Does not having District Championships impact the revised league plan?
No.  Our 2020 league plan is not impacted by this.
  5. What will happen to my rating?
    Please see USTA National FAQs
  6. Will the regulations for League tennis be retained in 2020? If not, what regulations will be changed?
Prior to the league season starting, we will publish any regulations changes for the 2020 league season.

Safety guidelines will also be included for players and teams.
  7. Will the USTA refund my membership fees?
    Please see USTA National FAQs
  8. How will District advancement be determined if the Section decides to host ITA Mixed Sectionals or the CTA Adult 65 & Over Invitational?
Click here for information about how advancement to Sectionals will work if these events are held.
  9. Since District Championships aren’t taking place this year, will league fees be reduced?
Our League fees are not based on providing a District Championship. We provide District Championships at no additional fee to the players who qualify, so we will not be reducing fees this year.
  10. My team opted-in to the revised plan. Can we now opt-out?
Yes. Only in any leagues that have not reached the minimum player deadline / team confirmation deadline.

No. In leagues that have already passed the minimum player deadline / team confirmation deadline, because it isn’t possible for us to start over with scheduling every time a team backs out after we have begun scheduling.  It would ultimately create problems for the other teams in the league if some back out after our deadline.

REFUNDS

  1. What is the process to move an individual player’s registration from one league to another?
Players can move their registration to a different league during the 2020 season. This prevents them from being changed another active.com fee on their next registration. 5. If a league is cancelled altogether, how do I get refunded?
USTA Colorado does not have access to player credit cards, so all refunds are generally sent via check.  Due to the number of refunds that need to be processed, Active.com, the online processing company for league registrations on TennisLink will process refunds to credit cards directly this year. All Colorado players requesting a refund will be credited on the same day in August or September.

Yes. As long as a team has met the minimum roster requirement, additional players can register for that team any time during the league season.
